Meet Our President
MEET OUR PRESIDENT
Neil J Katz
President Board Of Trustees
Mr. Katz has been a resident of Williams Island since 2007.
He moved here from Scarsdale, New York where he was a member of the Young Israel of Scarsdale.
Mr. Katz was elected President of WCTS in 2010 and has served as our President since. Under his leadership the Synagogue has grown in membership and expanded its outreach to the greater Williams Island Jewish Community. Under the synagogue’s “Modern Orthodox” banner, Mr Katz has ensured a welcoming and inclusive environment to members and guests of varied observance levels, national origin and practice.
Neil has strived to make everyone feel welcomed and respected. He believes that while the Synagogue should always be the spiritual center of the Island’s Jewish residents, it should also function as the heart of Jewish community and cultural life. To that end, he succeeded in bringing in speakers of national stature, scholars-in-residence and introduced intellectually enriching events.
The recent World Pandemic introduced challenges to all communities. Neil has had to balance individual and collective concerns, as well as federal and state directives (at time conflicting) while keeping an eye on the safety of each member and the wellbeing and cohesion of the community as a whole. We are grateful for his leadership in this regard.
Neil is a graduate ('65) of Yeshiva University with a BA in psychology and a BHL from Yeshiva University’s Teachers Institute. He also has an MA in Industrial Psychology.
Neil and his wife Jacqueline reside in the 6000 building in suite #806.
He can be reached at his Mobile Phone # (917) 971 8854 and by email at Neiljkatz@aol.com
